Kochi - Arabian Sea Queen
Kochi, also known as Cochin, is a port city in southwest India that has a long history of trade dating back at least 600 years. It is located on the Malabar coast. The city, commonly referred to as the "Queen of the Arabian Sea," serves as the financial, commercial, and industrial hub of Kerala. Kochi exudes an old-world elegance and is home to a varied range of linguistic groups, including Gujaratis, Jews, and Konkinis, as well as ethnic groupings like the Anglo-Indians. The city also features a combination of plain terrain, beaches, islands, and backwaters.
Kochi has a long history of trade with the southwest and is still home to several Dutch and Portuguese structures, some of which have undergone reconstructions. Examples of these buildings include the Old Harbour House, Mattancherry Palace, Bolgatty Palace, and the Jewish Synagogue. The sophisticated shops, galleries, historical residences, and top museums, like the Kerala Folklore Museum and the Hill Palace, can all be found in this multicultural town.
Ernakulam, Jew Town, and Fort Kochi are populated with eateries and retail centres in a style reminiscent of the past mixed with present, including palaces, beaches, temples, and historical landmarks. In addition to being a popular tourist destination for sightseeing, Kochi is also known for its Ayurvedic Massages and for being the venue to view performances of dance dramas like Kathakali, a form of Keralan dance drama, and the artistic martial art form Kalarippayattu.
For the benefit of all art fans, Kochi hosts the biennial Kochi Muziris Biennale, a worldwide exhibition of contemporary art.
A network of lagoons and islands connected by boats may also be found in Cochin. Actually, one of the biggest artificial islands in India is Willingdon Island, which is located in Kochi. Kochi, the official home of the Indian Navy's southern command, is home to both an active naval facility and an aviation squadron.
How to Reach Kochi
Major cities are connected by frequent flights from Kochi International Airport. Kochi is served by three stations, the biggest and possibly busiest of which is Ernakulam Junction South. Train travel is inexpensive and simple. Buses from major South Indian cities travel to Kochi. As the National Highways and linked highways guarantee a smooth travel, you can also drive to Kochi.
Best time to visit Kochi
Kochi is a year-round destination, although the best time to go is in the winter, from October to March. This time of year offers a nice setting for seeing the city's many attractions, historical landmarks, and cultural events because temperatures range from 17°C to 33°C. Even though they can be a little challenging due to the harsh weather, Kochi's summers (March to June) and monsoons (July to September) are equally alluring, especially for low-cost tourists. In order to provide guests with a pleasant and unforgettable experience, Kochi's winter season strikes the perfect balance between avoiding the monsoon rains and the intense heat of summer.
