Situated in Uttar Pradesh on the Yamuna River's banks, Agra is a well-liked travel destination since it is the location of the Taj Mahal, one of the world's seven wonders. It offers a glimpse into the Mughal Empire's architectural heritage and history alongside Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri, two additional UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Agra's charm is derived from its history, architecture, and romance combined, making it an absolute must-visit for everyone travelling through or residing in India.

Agra is the 24th most populous city in India and one of the most populous cities in Uttar Pradesh. Given its lengthy and fascinating history, it is not surprising that Agra, along with Delhi and Jaipur, is a popular tourist destination on the Golden Triangle Circuit. Along with Varanasi and Lucknow, it is a member of the Uttar Pradesh Heritage Arc. The vast array of Mughal art and culture on show here is likely to delight history enthusiasts and fans of architecture alike.

Apart from its historical attractions, Agra has a bustling marketplace where tourists may purchase leather products, marble handicrafts, and regional treats like petha. Agra is renowned for its marble antiques, which are best purchased in the vicinity of Kinaari and Sadar bazaars. A glimpse into traditional Indian markets can be had at the bustling bazaars surrounding the Taj Ganj region, providing a unique cultural experience.

Food lovers will love Agra's cuisine, which is renowned for its Mughlai influences and includes classic dishes like biryanis, kebabs, and Mughlai chicken that pay homage to the city's royal culinary past. It is as well-known for the Taj Mahal as it is for Petha, a pumpkin-flavored confection flavoured with saffron and rose water.

Most people take a one-day excursion to Agra from New Delhi or other neighbouring Uttar Pradesh cities, and the trip is well worth it. Expect to be shocked, in awe, motivated, and ecstatic. But be wary of con artists posing as unofficial tour guides and selling phoney handicrafts.
