The largest ghat in Rishikesh is Triveni Ghat, which is located on the banks of the sacred Ganges river. Every evening, “Maha Aarti” takes place at Triveni Ghat.

The epics Ramayana and Mahabharat both make reference to Triveni Ghat, which is central to Hindu mythology. The chattri of Lord Krishna was also built on the Triveni Ghat. The great Lord Krishna is actually thought to have been cremated in the ghat. In addition to the sacred dips, the devotees feed the fish in the Ghat and offer milk as sacrifices to the river.

Every day from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, the evening aarti—also known as the Ganga Maha Aarti—is performed. It is among the most well-known and frequently observed customs in Rishikesh. Exciting drums and rhythmic bells are used to commemorate the Maha Aarti, which is conducted by chanting bhajans in adoration of the Lord. You can sense the lord’s energy and establish a connection with him through the hypnotising and melodic prayers delivered to him.

Small floating leaf boats filled with glowing diyas or oil lights are released by the worshippers. These little burning flames are scattered across the river, and nothing compares to the splendour of golden flames in the pitch-black water beneath the starry night sky.
