Satpura National Park, Pachmarhi – Safari Timing, Ticket Fee

One of the most spectacular and varied national parks in Central India is Satpura National Park, which is situated in the lovely and varied suburbs of Madhya Pradesh. The sanctuary, one of India’s most stunning tiger reserves, won the 2010 TOFT Wildlife Tourism Award for the most tourist-friendly wildlife locations. The Satpura Tiger Reserve, which occupies 202 square miles and is situated in the Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh, India, is named after the Satpura Hill ranges, also known as the Mahadeo hills.

Together with the sanctuaries of Bori and Pachmarhi, the Satpura National Park offers around 550 square miles of tiger reserve land, making it extremely important to India’s ecosystem. It was established in 1981 and ranges in elevation from 300 to 1,352 meters. In addition to a wide range of plants and animals, the Satpura National Park’s forest enclaves serve as refuge for a number of threatened and endangered species.

History of Satpura National Park

In 1862, Captain James Forsyth of the Bengal Lancers made the first explorations of the land and region that now make up Satpura National Park. It was decided to designate the region as a reserve forest when the relevant authorities recognized the ecological and commercial worth of the large tracts of verdant forests it contained. The state government then designated the region as a National Park and Sanctuary, allowing for greater focus on preserving the ecosystem’s overall faunal and floral diversity. The Indian government later designated the Satpura National Park and the nearby Bori and Panchmarhi Sanctuaries as the Satpura Tiger Reserve.

Flora and Fauna at Satpura Tiger Reserve

Because it is home to uncommon and endangered species, the Satpura National Park has a high level of biodiversity and is an essential component of the Indian ecosystem. With more than 1300 plant species, it displays an impressive floral variety. Sal, teak, tendu, bamboos, mahua (Indian butter tree), bel (stone apple), grasses, bushes, and other significant medicinal plants are included in this list.

Indian bison (Gau), spotted dear, leopards, tigers, wild boars, sloth bears, blackbuck, four-horned antelopes, porcupine, sambahar, otters, crocodiles, langurs, Malabar squirrels, and more are among its biodiversity. Satpura National Park is known for its Indian Giant squirrel and White Bison. A wide range of migrating species can also be found in the sanctuary between November and March.

Safari at Satpura Tiger Reserve

In Satpura National Park, the safari starts with a motorboat provided by the forest authorities to cross the Denwa River. The tourists must then wait for the jeeps to come, during which they can enjoy the tranquility of spotted deer and blue bull babies. Accommodations for the forest department are also available here. All things considered, the jeep safari is an unforgettable and unmatched experience. Keep in mind that visitors are not permitted to exit the car outside of designated areas.

Currently, it is not possible to purchase tickets for the Satpura National Park online. Booking a ticket through the resort where you are staying is the best option. Booking the safari through the park management’s booking counter, which is situated at the entrance gate, is another common method. At the Madhai entrance gate, on the Denwa River’s side, is one such counter.
