Historical Significance of Gun Hill Viewpoint, Mussoorie

The colonists in the region had grown weary of British domination during the time of the British invasion of India. The colonists fought the British by carrying a cannon to the top of the hill and firing it at them. The hill that is now a part of Woodlawn Cemetery became known as Gun Hill after this incident. Gun Hill Road is the new name for the road that goes to the hill, which was formerly known as Kingsbridge Road. 

The British erected a canon on the hill in 1857, and it was shot daily at noon to direct the inhabitants to their watches in accordance with the time. This is another legend connected to Gun Hill. During the Sepoy Mutiny, the British had brought a big fire artillery to the hill. The moniker lasted even after the gun was taken out in the 1970s.

How To Reach Gun Hill

The closest railway station to the Gun Hill is Dehradun, which is 34 miles distant. The drive takes about one hour and twenty minutes. In actuality, it is just 1.7 miles from the Mall Road, Cart Road, and the Library Bus Stand. These are regularly served by buses and taxis. Walking to the site is not only a viable option but also a wise one because of the short distance and stunning surroundings.
