Gopeshvar Mahadev Temple (Timings, History, Entry Fee, Aarti)
One of Vrindavan’s oldest temples, Gopeshwar Mahadev Temple, is situated near the revered Yamuna River. Vrajanabha, Lord Krishna’s great-grandson, built the Shiva Linga in the temple, which is why it is adored. Since this temple is one of the few in the town that is connected to Lord Shiva, thousands of devotees travel to Vrindavan to worship him.
With Shiva Linga, the male power symbol, worshipped during the day (6:00 AM to 10:00 AM) and Shiv Linga dressed as a gopi with special shringar ceremonies, worshipped at night (5:00 PM to 9:00 PM) during Raasleela, the temple represents the union of the feminine and masculine forces of nature.
Anyone who wants to experience the joy of Raas Leela should go to the Gopeshwar Mahadev Temple, which is close to Vamshivat. There, they should pray to Gopeshwar for bringing them into Sakhibhav. Since Lord Shiva was a follower of Lord Vishnu, of whom Lord Krishna was an avatar, the traditions of Vrindavan regard him as the first Vaishnav of all time and the guru of all Vaishnavs.
Legend of Gopeshwar MahadevÂ
According to legend, Lord Shiva and his wife, Pravati, came to participate in Raas Leela, which Krishna and Radha were playing on the moonlit banks of the Yamuna River near Vamshivat on the full moon night of Sharad Purnima. Since men were not intended to participate, Lord Shiva was prohibited from entering, but Goddess Parvati was permitted entry. Therefore, Vrinda Devi, the deity of Vrindavan, halted him on the borders of the city and informed him that the reason he was not allowed to enter was because he had not provided Sakhibhav, which was necessary for Raas Leela, which is meant to appease Goddess Radha.
Shiva meditated with Radha in mind since he was resolved to take part. Satisfied with his meditation, Radha introduced him to Sakhibhav and then sent her close friend Lalita to take him across into the Rasamandal. Lalita approached Lord Shiva and revealed the most profound secrets of Sakhibhav. She then urged him to immerse himself fully in the sacred Yamuna in order to attain Sakhibhav.
Shiva returned from the dip a stunning lady, and Lalita escorted him to Rasamandal. After recognising Lord Shiva, Lord Krishna gave his female form the name Gopeshwar. Since Lalita helped him decipher Sakhibhav’s mysteries, Shiva regarded her as his guru. The Shiva Linga is widely believed to have been erected by the Vraja Gopis, who worshipped him in order to become husbands to Krishna.
