Dera Baba Banda, Vaishno Devi Overview
Dera Baba Banda Bahadur is a guudwara located at Dera Baba Banda hamlet close to Katra, 28 kilometers from Katra Railway Station. It is one of the most visited locations close to Katra and is situated on the banks of the River Chenab.
The famous Gurudwara Dera Baba Banda Bahadur is devoted to Baba Banda Bairaagi, the favorite of Guru Gobind Singh. The ashes of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur are kept in the 300-year-old complex. The army of Guru Gobind Singh was commanded by Baba Banda. Guru Sahib awarded him with a sword, a bow, and an arrow. This is where he spent his final days. These historical artifacts of the saint soldier are kept there.
The monastery’s layout and architectural features are quite impressive, and it was constructed with white marble. The Gurudwara’s inner walls have exquisite golden-hued textures. Another feature of the Gurudwara is the Nishan Sahib, a 48-foot-tall deodar tree. Visitors are drawn to the location by the village’s picturesque surroundings and verdant surroundings.
During the yearly Mela conducted here on Vaisakhi in April, devotees from all over India come to this sacred temple to ask for the blessings of the almighty soul. To honor the soldier who was martyred, the fair is held with tremendous affection and lasts for three days. During the eve, the Dera is lit up and the Ragis recite the Shabad Kirtan and prayers.
