Chamunda Devi Temple, Dalhousie | Timings | How to Reach
The sacred Hindu shrine known as Chamunda Devi Temple is situated close to Dalhousie in Himachal Pradesh and is devoted to Goddess Chamunda, a manifestation of Goddess Kali. Legends of Chamunda Devi Temple, Dalhousie
According to tradition, while goddess Ambika was seated atop the hill, two demons named Chanda and Munda attempted to disturb her. In a tiger-skinned saree and a skull wreath, she became enraged and assumed the terrible form of Kali. She exterminated the two demons. Goddess Kali announced that she would now be revered as Chamunda Devi following their destruction.
History of Chamunda Devi Temple, Dalhousie
The current temple was constructed in 1762 CE by Chamba State King Umed Singh. The current temple was constructed on top of an earlier one that had been demolished in the 17th century CE when the Nurpur kings invaded Chamba. The central government protects this temple as a monument of national significance.
