Ahar Cenotaphs Udaipur – Timings, History, Best Time to Visit
Situated in Ahar, approximately 2km east of Udaipur in Rajasthan, the Ahar Museum comprises both the Ahar Archaeological Museum and the Ahar Cenotaphs. In addition to its stunning architecture, this historical site is well-known for being the Maharanas of Mewar’s burial place.
The 19 marble cenotaphs, or chhatris, in the Ahar Museum, which dates back more than 350 years, are a site of archaeological interest. Every cenotaph honors a Mewar monarch; they are elevated platforms with columns that terminate in arched domes. The cenotaphs’ architraves have decorations reminiscent of temples from the fifteenth century, as well as a picture of Lord Shiva and a figure that represents the Maharana and his Satis. Here are the cenotaphs of people like Fateh Singh, Sajjan Singh, Sangram Singh, and Maharana Amar Singh.
Another site that’s becoming more and more well-liked these days is the Archeological Museum in Ahar. An interesting collection of antiques dating back to the tenth century can be seen in this museum. The museum is filled with artifacts from the prehistoric era, such as iron items, earthen pots, and other articles of clothing. Highlights of the museum include items from 1700 BC, a statue of Vishnu-Nag-Nathan, and a metal image of Lord Buddha from the 10th century. The museum also has artifacts that were excavated from the Dhulkot mound, which is thought to be a 4,000-year-old township. Visitors can also see a skin scrubber, grain pot, animal figures, stone weights, balls and seals that date back to the 1st century BC. Terracotta toys, pottery remnants and a huge earthen pot are the other exhibits in the museum.
