Mandore Gardens Jodhpur (Entry Fee, Timings, History)

Mandore, the former capital of the Pratihara dynasty, is only 9 km from Jodhpur and is home to famous royal cenotaphs and Mandore Garden. The garden is a part of the larger Mehrangarh Fort, which also contains the temple of Three Hundred Million Gods and the well-known Hall of Heroes. There is also a Government Museum in the grounds, which is filled with antiques and treasures.

The most striking feature of the garden is the gorgeous cenotaphs or ‘dewals’ that can be found spread all across the Mandore Gardens. Undoubtedly, the most beautiful and famous of these cenotaphs is the one that belongs to Maharaja Ajit Singh. The structures inside the garden are undoubtedly its most striking feature, the Hall of Heroes for instance – has 16 figures of warriors carved from a single rock.

These cenotaphs are distinct from the typical umbrella-shaped structures found in Rajasthan since they were constructed in a manner inspired by Hindu temple architecture. All of these four-story cenotaphs are constructed of red sandstone and feature elegant spires and clearly defined columns.
