Guru Shikhar Mount Abu (Entry Fee, Timings, Images & Location)
The Aravalli Range’s tallest peak, Guru Shikhar, is roughly 15 km from Mount Abu. With a height of 1722 meters above sea level, the top offers a stunning perspective of the Aravalli range and Mount Abu, a hill station. The name Guru Shikhar means ‘the peak of the guru’ and was given in honour of Guru Dattatreya, who is said to have lived on the peak when he was a monk. In his honour, the cave on top of the summit has been transformed into a temple. The Mount Abu Observatory is also located in Guru Shikhar.
You would need to ascend a few steps to reach the summit of Guru Shikhar Peak after a 15-kilometer drive. The weather becomes more overcast and foggy when you go in October and November. ‘1411 AD’ is engraved on an ancient bell at the summit of Guru Shikhar. It’s like declaring your accomplishment to the Mount Abu valley when you ring the bell after hiking all the way to the summit. Long and distant, the bell chimes.
Legend of Guru Shikhar
According to the local tradition, the three gods’ wives, Saraswati, Lakshmi, and Parvati, became tense because the goddess Anusuya was adamant about having a son like Brahma, Vishnu, or Mahesh. As a result, they instructed their husbands to visit the people and have Anusuya examined. Then, after the people of Earth put Goddess Anusuya to the test, she took the newborn forms of Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh and brought them home to his spouse Atri, who had already dreamed of the same thing.
The three kids were transformed into a single child with three heads and six hands by their power as Atri held them. Concerned about their husbands’ homecoming, Saraswati, Lakshmi, and Parvati went to Goddess Anusuya and begged the pair to bring their husbands back. Tridev then took on their true appearance. Tridev was so moved by Anusuya and Atri’s generosity that he bestowed upon them a son, Dattatreya, who embodied the qualities of all three Gods. The infant had six arms, three heads, and one body.
It is said that Dattatreya is an incarnation of Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Brahma. On top stands the ancient temple of Guru Dattatreya. It is stated that Lord Dattatreya’s footprints can be found in the temple. Ahilya, the mother of Dattatreya, is worshipped in a shrine northwest of Guru Shikhar mountain.
