This blog offers travel advice for those who are wandering to Leh Ladakh. The goal is to educate them about the natural beauty of Ladakh and the process of acclimatization there. Also included are the preventative steps that should be done in case of health issues related to high altitude.
Ladakh has consistently been a popular travel destination for adventure seekers and backpackers alike. This paradisiacal pace is most known for its calm monasteries, where you can find inner peace and tranquility, as well as its vivid mountains, deep blue lakes, chilly deserts, excellent culture—which appears to have Tibetan influences—and harsh weather. For the rest of your life, the gentle and serene ringing of bells in monasteries will comfort your spirit. Over the course of the entire trip to Leh Ladakh, the traveler needs to exercise particular vigilance. You must provide your body and breathing pattern the best care possible.
For tourists, acclimatization to Ladakh would be fairly challenging. It could lead you to experience headaches, vertigo, or acute mountain sickness (AMS). Therefore, with a little preparation and lifestyle modification, you could experience the breathtaking beauty of nature. Your body would often adjust to the high altitude more readily if you traveled from the Manali route rather than landing straight in Leh Ladakh.
The state of Jammu & Kashmir’s highest plateau, Ladakh, lies primarily over 3,000 meters (9,800 feet). Ladakh is located at a very high elevation. The greatest tourist destinations in Leh Ladakh are all located at a high altitude. You may have traveled to Kasmir, Manali, Shimla, or any other part of India where snow is present, but Ladakh is mostly renowned for its vividly colored mountains and high passes.
If you don’t adjust to the weather, Ladakh may prove to be a challenge.
Must See: Places to Visit in Ladakh
Following are ladakh travel advices while you are exploring Ladakh- the heaven in India.
High Altitude Seekness Preventions
Being the highest plateau in Jammu & Kashmir, it has relatively little oxygen, making breathing difficult. So you’d better bring along the acute mountain sickness medication. Please understand the effects and side effects of those medications and speak with your family doctor before purchasing them.
Consumption patterns
Calorie intake is necessary for your body. In order to provide your body with the energy it needs to function properly, try increasing the amount of carbohydrates in your diet.
A Big NO to Alcohol, Tobacco, Anti – Depressant Drugs or Smoking
Breathlessness may result from these factors. You would be experiencing breathing difficulties due to the high altitude, and consuming these items would make the situation worse.
Keep Camphor or Garlic with you while travelling
Yes, does that sound odd? Chewing garlic and smelling camphor when traveling with water greatly reduces your risk of developing AMS.
Don’t overexert yourself
This is because increasing your activities or level of activity will make you more exhausted, which increases your risk of becoming sick from dyspnea. Slow down, even the hotel authorities would advise.
Mind the Twists and Turns
Ladakh is a land of high passes, including the highest motorable pass, Changla Pass, and Khardungla Pass. You will become nauseous from the constant twists and turns when traveling from one tourist destination to another. Try not to eat too much because you would probably be traveling early in the morning and don’t want the roller coaster ride to make you feel queasy.
Be hydrated completely and avoid overhydration
Maintaining the right level of oxygen in your body can be achieved by staying hydrated. You can sip water or juice that has been infused with ORS or minced garlic. Simultaneously, if you drank water before feeling thirsty, it would make you sicker and cause nausea. Thus, it ought to be based on necessity.
Take a Good Night sleep
Try to get a good night’s sleep because, even if you are on vacation, your body is having a hard time adjusting to the new weather. However, do not sleep throughout the day.
Keep a Hot Bag with you
Hot Bag would help you to keep you warm.
Don’t forget those Thermals, Woolen clothes and snowshoes
Bring along an additional set of warm clothes for your journey to Ladakh. All of the clothing needs to be completely dry. It would help to have an additional pair of wool socks with you.
Mind the slightest change in your body
When something is amiss with our bodies, they constantly alert us to it. Pay attention to what your body tells you. If your body is not up to the hardships of high altitude, it is always best to adjust your strategy and descend.
Oxygen Kit
In Ladakh, almost every tourist vehicle is equipped with an oxygen kit. Verify that the taxi driver or your travel agent has a sufficient supply of oxygen kits in operational order. One tourist’s 8-year-old daughter was experiencing dyspnea during our trip to Ladakh, and since their equipment was broken at the time, they had to borrow it from us. We never required that equipment because we had already taken all the necessary precautions. 😊
Therefore, I’d say it’s your turn to find your way around Ladakh and take advantage of all the opportunities that lie ahead of you. Remember those four words, though: LISTEN TO YOUR BODY.
