Nathula, a mountain pass in the Himalayan ranges that connects Sikkim with China, is one of the world’s highest motorable roads. One of the most significant Himalayan crossings in the nation is Nathu La, which is located 14450 feet above sea level on the Indo-Tibetan border. La signifies ‘pass’ and Nathu means ‘listening ears’. Known for its picturesque beauty and stunning surroundings, Nathula is one of the three open trading border checkpoints between China and India. For the majority of the year, the temperature stays low here, and in the summer, it becomes a popular tourist destination.
Every year, a large number of people come here to trek around the valley and take in the breathtaking scenery. Along the route from Gangtok to Nathu La, several waterfalls gushing water may be found. It also provides a chance to view the stunning snow-capped peaks that surround the region. Yaks, Tibetan wolves, snow leopards, Tibetan gazelles, and other Himalayan fauna can be found in the area. In addition to a remarkable array of wildlife, Nathu La Pass boasts a diverse spectrum of plants.
Only Indian nationals are granted a valid permit to access Nathu La Pass. The Tourism and Civil Aviation Department is the place to apply for the permission. A licensed travel agent can assist you with this. Two photos and legitimate identification are required for the same.
The temple known as Baba Mandir was constructed near the Samadhi of Harbhajan Singh and is located 64 miles away at an elevation of 4000 meters on the road that runs between Nathu La and Jelepla Pass. According to local belief, Baba Harbhajan Singh must be honored by anyone traveling through the Nathang Valley and taking in the breathtaking scenery. You will be misled if you consider it to be a typical temple. The most indescribable samadhi you have ever seen awaits you as you ascend the stairs to the concrete structure, which is flanked by bells on both sides.
