The Dal Lake is a small but charming lake in the Kangra district of Mcleodganj, Himachal Pradesh, close to the village of Tota Rani. It is 1,775 meters above sea level. The lake, which gets its name from Srinagar’s renowned and stunning Dal Lake, is encircled by rocky mountains and tall deodar trees. The serene lake welcomes those who enjoy the outdoors to observe various fish species in their native environment.
With its verdant surroundings and blossoming trees, the lake is the ideal place to spend a pleasant day in the company of loved ones. Nature enthusiasts visit this tourist destination all day long. Trekking trips around the lake are an option for those looking for adventure. If you are trekking up to Naddi, also called the Sunset Point, Dal Lake is a great area to rest and unwind.
Because of the Shiva Temple here, a large fair is held every September on the shores of Dal Lake. Many members of the Gaddi Tribe attend this spectacular ceremony, which is held to commemorate Lord Shiva’s arrival.
Legend has it that because the lake is thought to be cursed, these fish are never captured or consumed. Ironically, a modest temple devoted to Lord Shiva is located on the lake’s shores, indicating that the lake is also revered.
Following their visit to Dal Lake, visitors can continue on to Naddi hamlet, which is another 1 km away from the site. The area is renowned for its gorgeous surroundings and natural beauty, making it the perfect destination for anyone looking for a tranquil and adventurous experience. At Eco Point, Naddi Village provides a tranquil atmosphere and a breathtaking view of the valley with a cool sunset.
In the summer, the villagers have a festival where you may sample various cuisines and socialize with the locals. Additionally, there is a 3-kilometer trekking adventure that will keep tourists’ adrenaline levels up. The community also has a number of shrines where people can worship Lord Keyling and other deities. It is regarded as a fantastic weekend vacation location.
The months of May through October are the ideal times to go because of the lovely and favorable weather. The area is covered in snow throughout the winter, making it challenging to enjoy a tranquil moment here. During the winter, boating is also prohibited. If at all possible, schedule a vacation to Dal Lake in September so you may see the magnificent fair that happens there.
The main market is only two kilometers from the Dal Lake, which is situated in the Kangra district. To go to the lake, you can take an automobile from the bus stop. The Dal Lake is about a kilometer away, making it easy for visitors from Naddi Village to walk there and take in the picturesque surroundings.
