The ancient Bhandasar Jain Temple is located in the Rajasthani town of Bikaner, 2.5 kilometres from Bikaner Junction. It is one of the most popular pilgrimage sites in Bikaner and one of the most captivating tourist destinations in Bikaner.
A Jain trader named Bhandasa Oswal built the Bhandasar Jain Temple in 1468 AD, and it was finished in 1514 AD following his passing. The fifth Tirthankar, Sumatinath, is the object of devotion in the temple. The temple is thought to have been constructed using 40,000 kilogrammes of ghee rather than mortar, which the locals claim seeps through the walls during hot weather.
The magnificence of Rajputana architecture is reflected in the Bhandasar Jain Temple. Constructed from red sandstone, this three-story temple is mostly known for its usta art and wall paintings. The temple is renowned for its exquisitely carved pillars and gold-leaf craftsmanship. The temple’s pillars are decorated with flowers. Beautiful frescoes that tell the tale of the 24 Jain Tirthankars adorn the Bhandasar Jain Temple. One of the main highlights of the temple is its mirror craftsmanship. A white marble statue of Lord Sumatinath sitting on a silver throne atop a two-foot-tall pavilion is located on the temple’s ground floor. Beautiful sculptures are used to adorn the temple’s ground floor sandstone pillars.
