The oldest church in Dalhousie, St. John’s Church, was constructed in 1863 and holds significant historical value in addition to serving as a guardian of Protestantism in the area. History of St John’s Church, Dalhousie

Before 1863, a wooden church stood exactly where St. John’s Church now resides. After Rev. John H. Pratt arrived in Dalhousie, he urged the locals—particularly the Protestant missionaries—to build a structure that would be resilient to weather-related issues, which led to the construction of the current building. The church’s current design is similar to that of the Roman Catholic churches in England; it is constructed of stone and has inside beams made of wood.
