The sacred Hindu temple known as Kodamdesar Bhairu Ji Temple is located in Kodamdesar village in the Bikaner district of Rajasthan, 26 kilometres from Bikaner.
Rao Bika Ji, the founder and ruler of Bikaner (1472-1504 AD) and a member of the Jodhpur royal family, constructed the Kodamdesar Bhairu Ji Temple. This temple was constructed in the first three years after he left Jodhpur in 1465 AD to found Bikaner State. Originally selected to lay the foundation of Bikaner, this house of worship was later moved to its current location.
Lord Bhairon Ji, a manifestation of Lord Shiva, is worshipped in Kodamdesar Temple. Lord Bhairon Ji was the ferocious manifestation of Lord Shiva, born from Bhruguti (the space between the two eyebrows). The Kodamdesar Temple, one of Rao Bika’s original creations, is a singular destination. The Temple has no doors or chambers and is entirely open. The lone object in the centre is a massive idol of Bhairon Ji. White marble is used throughout the floor. Numerous dogs are visible throughout the temple complex. Behind the temple lies a pond.
