Bade Mahadev Temple is a cave temple in Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh, 11 kilometers from Pachmarhi Bus Station. One of the most revered shrines in the area and one of the top tourist destinations in Pachmarhi, it is located on the route to Chauragarh Temple.

One of Pachmarhi’s oldest temples, Bada Mahadev, is devoted to Lord Shiva. In the mythology, Lord Vishnu killed Demon Bhasmasura in the form of the celestial beauty Mohini in Bada Mahadev Cave. As a result, this cave is a significant destination for pilgrims and a representation of good triumphing over evil.

The statues of Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Ganesha are housed in the about 60-foot-long cave, which also has a Shivalinga. It is wider around the house of worship and only allows one person to enter the cave at a time. During Nag Panchami and Maha Shivaratri, visitors frequent the central pool, where bathing is said to cleanse one’s sins, and water continuously cascades down the cave’s walls.

To get to the main cave, devotees must travel 300 meters on a well-paved trail from the parking lot. It would always be helpful to have a torch when exploring this small cave.
