With a height of more than 32 meters (106 feet), the Maitreya Buddha statue in Nubra Valley is a majestic representation of compassion and harmony. One of the tallest statues of Maitreya Buddha in the world, this magnificent monument is situated close to the Diskit Monastery and is a well-known landmark in the area.
The statue, which is also referred to as the Future Buddha, is embellished with elaborate features and decorations that showcase Ladakh’s rich creative legacy. It is thought to represent the future Buddha, who will come to Earth to teach enlightenment and loving-kindness.

History of Maitreya Buddha Statue
The statue was constructed in 2006 to promote peace and protection in the region. It was officially inaugurated in 2010 by H H Dalai Lama. The statue faces the Shyok River towards Pakistan and is about 32 M in height.
Things to see in the Diskit Monastery
With elaborate wall murals and frescoes, the Diskit Monastery’s interiors are almost as stunning as its exteriors. Huge drums and exquisite representations of the Buddhist guardian deities may be found in the Dukhang prayer hall.
Along with a number of shrines, the monastery’s storeroom houses a large collection of Tibetan and Mongolian sacred writings.
The Lachung Temple, which is well-known for its enormous idol of Tsong Khapa, the founder of the Gelugpa branch of Buddhism, is located directly above the monastery. It is thought to be among the Nubra Valley’s ancient temples.
