History of Lalgarh Palace

For Maharaja Ganga Singh, who took the throne in 1887 at the age of seven, the Lalgarh Palace was constructed between 1902 and 1926. During his reign, Bikaner underwent a significant transformation, and the Junagarh Fort was deemed too mediaeval for a young, modern prince such as himself. Therefore, it was decided to construct Lalgarh under British India for this new, modern King of Bikaner.

In order to conserve the landmark, Maharaja Karni Singh established the Maharaja Gangaji Trust in 1972 after becoming sincerely concerned about the ancient estate’s preservation. Two of the palace’s wings were consequently given to the trust, and in 1974 were opened as Heritage and Luxury Hotels for visitors. Princess Rajyashree Singh, his daughter, currently owns and operates the hotel. It is one of Bikaner’s greatest architectural wonders. Originally scheduled to cost INR 1,00,000, the usage of the finest materials and intricately carved masonry caused the price to soar to INR 1 million.
