He is not limited by “time” or “death.” According to the Puranas, Shiva created Kaal Bhairava to vanquish demons during a battle between devas and asuras. Later, Astanga Bhairavas were created. The Ashta Bhairavas married the frightful-looking Ashta Matrikas. These Ashta Bhairavas and Ashta Matrikas were converted into 64 Bhairavas and 64 Yoginis. Another mythology states that Lord Shiva’s wrath caused Kaal Bhairav to be born.

The Kaal Bhairav Temple is one of Varanasi’s temples with the most impressive construction. In front of the temple, Kaal Bhairav’s horse stands watch over an entryway. The temple has a beautiful courtyard. In the middle of the courtyard sits Kaal Bhairav’s main temple. The statue of Kaal Bhairav is covered in flowers and has a silver face. The statue is seen from the shrine’s entrance. The statue is said to be holding a trident and is affixed to a dog figure. The statue is completely covered in flowers, with the exception of the face.
How to Reach Batuk Bhairav Mandir, Varanasi
The locality of Vishweshwarganj is where the temple is situated. The only way to get there is to travel via narrow streets. Although the temple’s entrance is small, guests can catch a glimpse of the Lord from the mandapam outside. The priests request money, and clear darshan is possible through the inner sanctuary’s back entrance. By automobile, rickshaw, and other means of conveyance, the temple is conveniently reachable. It takes about ten minutes to get to the temple of Kashi Vishwanath.
